Another rack scene!
A messenger who tried to cross enemy territory with valuable information,
was captured, but the enemy is frustrated by his defiance and his strength of will.

“Torture by Fire!”
A glimpse here of what led up to the main event, and
a blank for those who prefer their own interpretation.

More from the Wild West.
This illustration was based on a famous, hence familiar, scene in a movie, but for some reason its subject was not a factor in the plot of the film. All we got was this glimpse, as the camera panned past the scene.
Here it is reproduced as a poster, and as the cover of a paperback book.

I cannot give this image any provocative caption that would enhance its powerful impact.

It’s just the logical sequence: offence – arrest – trial – conviction – sentence – torture – rack!

Sometimes we don’t have to venture far into fantasy, but can relate to something we regularly see in our real world.

Perhaps not all cults are weird, but just the word cult suggest some
bizarre or otherworldly activity. Why would a cult go to the trouble
of kidnapping a handsome, muscular youth unless they had a use
for him that bordered on the supernatural? What do they want with
him? Is he to be a stud for their maidens or sacrificed to some deity
he’d never heard of? Is he going to be tortured, deliberately and
ceremonially, for their spiritual, carnal or psychological fulfillment?

Here he is. Do whatever you want to him.

Although we operate in a fantasy world on the Bunker, the fantasy really is,
that we are in the real world! In the fantasy world, the “torture” is consensual;
the prisoner seeks satisfaction in experiencing the pain/pleasure of restraint and
arousing physical abuse, while his tormentor, even if seriously sadistic, keeps
his treatment of his prisoner within “safe and sane” limits. Unlike the real world,
in the fantasy world the “action” often (usually?) includes caressing, stroking,
manhandling the naked body of the prisoner. Should this be done in the real
world, it would be devastatingly humiliating to a straight, masculine prisoner.
So, we get satisfaction both from seeing what we would like, and from seeing
men who don’t like it, get it!

For decades, from the “winning of the West” years in the late 19th century,
until an awakening of its racial and ethnic exploitation in the mid-20th century,
“westerns” that depicted torture scenes perpetrated by American Indians were
a staple of American culture in pulp magazines, comics and movies. Action
in the “Cowboys and Indians” genre, whether involving unfortunate cowboys,
cavalry troopers, or captured settlers, gave us erotic images of brave men
bearing up (or not) in situations that were themselves mostly fantasy.
The story in which this scene is depicted is a treasure trove of such images.
