The trick, that a portrayed person looks at the viewer directly from inside the picture, is seldom used (almost never in the cinema), because it breaks down the barrier between art and reality. Add to that, the extremely mischievous and knowing smile, with which the young “ruler” looks at you, you can’t help, but mentally agree: “The victim will have a lot of fun, with that, what I have (obviously) to offer him.”
